Transforming Lives: Rural Sanitation Success Story

Date: April 23, 2017

Location: Ramamurthy Nagar and Ejipura, Bangalore

This is a government school in Cholnayakanahalli, Magadi Road, Bangalore. The school currently has only one operational toilet with only 3 urinals which is across the road where the primary school and exam hall is. This toilet is being used by over 150 girls, boys and staff. This was causing them a lot of inconvenience in terms of standing in long queues, missing classes & hygiene issues.

In an inspiring partnership, Taaran and Round Table Bangalore Mavericks RT 275 accomplished a significant milestone on April 23, 2017. We at Taaran spearheaded the construction of a new block to be built inside the school premises with 5 urinals just for boys. We also renovated a defunct toilet block for the girls within the school which has not been used for many months, so that it is easier for them and reduces the need to cross the busy road. The impact was immediate, with students readily utilizing the facilities as the new academic year began in June.

This accomplishment underscores the pressing need for adequate sanitation in rural schools. Access to clean, well-maintained toilets empowers students, boosts attendance, and elevates their educational outcomes, especially in girls. Even more heartening is the diligent maintenance and responsible use of these facilities by the students themselves.

Our deepest gratitude goes out to the generous donors and the committed members of BMRT 275. Your unwavering dedication to rural sanitation has not only changed lives but also paved the way for a brighter future. As a united force, we are resolute in our mission to uplift rural schools and ensure that every child’s fundamental right to proper sanitation is upheld.
